Carbenoxolone disodium is an active metabolite of glycyrrhizic acid and an inhibitor of human 11β-HSD and bacterial 3α, 20β-HSD. Carbenoxolone disodium is a gap junction uncoupler and can effectively inhibit the growth of vaccinia virus. It can be used to study peptic, esophageal and oral ulcers and inflammation.
